Whether due to Primarily Catholic Upbringing or being the child of a book collector, I am UTTERLY INCAPABLE of tossing books and/or other perfectly good things that I don't want/have room for.
As in: I. Can't. Do it.
So! Here it is:
Are you newly pregnant? Do you know someone who is newly pregnant? If you do, leave a comment on this post and I'll pick a winner at random to receive [a box full of shit that I can't bear to throw away, due to aforementioned Mental Glitch] some great Newly Pregnant Person stuff. Mostly bookish type things. Good stuff, though, not junky. You can leave a comment and win even if you're NOT newly pregnant, it's totally up to you. A few of the things, though, are geared toward and will get the most use from someone who is...you got it...NEWLY PREGNANT.
omg.
I need my afternoon caffeine.
The comment can be about anything but let's see...what am I curious about today?
How about telling me about a really, really great gift that you were given. How's that?
Edited to add: The random number generator picked Jess! Whooop! Better get knocked up quick, Newlywed!

I am about 14 weeks along and fully immersed in the corny, hormonal stage of my pregnancy (wait, that lasts the ENTIRE time???) but anyway last Friday I had my monthly check up and the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat. I had had a nightmare two nights prior that this would happen and so I laid there, counting the seconds, the different places she tried to find it, the different expressions that crossed her face and I listened to her calm voice telling me we could always do a full ultrasound if we couldn't find it. As the seconds clicked on, I had one of those out of body experiences where all time and motion around me became still and the only thing I could think was, "we can do an ultrasound if she doesn't find it" over and over. Finally, she decided to push down on my uterus (ow) to see if the baby was hiding in the back and there it was. The faintest little heartbeat you have ever heard. As I sit here, with tears brimming, I can honestly say that sound was the one of the greatest gifts I've ever been given in my life.

I am 6 months pregnant with my second. The best gift I ever got was an espresso machine. I adore it. Now I don't have to leave the house and pay $5 for a latte!!

I am about 9 weeks pregnant, so kind of new, but I have already been pregnant once, so maybe the gift should go to someone who needs the information a little more than I do? Hmmm...it's up to you, of course! The sweetest gift I've ever been given was from my husband, this past Christmas. Last November, I was in a community theater production of RENT. It was a big deal because I'd never even auditioned for anything before, and me and my husband have been huge RENT fans since we were first able to see it in the 90s. Anyway, being in the production took a lot of sacrifice for both of us; we had an 18 mo old at the time and we had to arrange childcare constantly, and practices took up almost every night for about 3 months. My husband came to 8 of our 12 shows, and he always sat in the middle, so I could see him. We were both absolutely relieved at the last performance. A couple days before Christmas, my husband cloistered himself in our guest room and forbid me to enter. He stayed up all night Christmas Eve, and in the morning, presented me with a beautiful scrapbook full of pictures and momentos from the show, along with messages from my fellow cast members. It's nothing fancy, but he put so much effort into it, and I was absolutely touched..

The best gift I was given was one of those one-cup coffee maker things. I've made myself a hot chocolate or decaf tea almost every day since. Even though it's hot here, it's still nice to enjoy in the mornings! I am newly pregnant...17 weeks, 3 days!

I'm not newly pregnant (yet, but we just started trying two days ago!) but I like what you are doing here :) I'm pretty tight-fisted with our household budget, and a few years ago I'd really wanted to get a Nintendo Wii so I could get a Wii Fit (both of which were really hard to find in stock anywhere, at the time). I was struggling with really wanting those things, not wanting to spend the money for it, and not being able to find anyplace that had them in stokc. I was at the beach with my family and my husband came by to surprise us (he hates the beach, so that was a pleasant surprise in and of itself!) I asked what he'd done that day and he said he'd bought me a Wii. He's a sarcastic guy, so I said, "Oh, you're just joking" and he didn't correct me. I went out into the water with my Mom, who then told me, "You know that he wasn't joking, right? He told us about it while you were swimming before, it's in the car right now" :) My husband doesn't believe in giving gifts for birthdays or Christmas, but every so often he surprises me with something I wouldn't have bought for myself, which is always a great gift.

For my last birthday, my husband bought me James Taylor concert tickets. And no, I'm not 60. I've been in love with JT since I first saw him sing 'Jelly Man Kelly' on Sesame Stret in the early 80s. It was a dream come true. :)

For my birthday two friends chipped in on a gourmet potato chip of the month club. It was so funny (and delicious)!

This might not be useful to me right this second, but I hope that it will be in the near future. In the meantime, an awesome gift: the first Christmas Torsten and I were together, he knew I had been longing for a proper camera but couldn't afford one, so he did a ton of research and bought me a really nice camera. I was shocked when I opened it, but not as shocked as my parents--that was the moment when they realized how serious the relationship was going to be.

I am NOT newly pg, so DON'T PICK ME, but can I tell my story anyway? I was newly pg (my first) and through an online connection, a new bloggy friend sent me a maternity skirt that didn't work for her (she was also newly pg with her first). I was so touched that a virtual stranger would do such a thing, we became fast friends and now, nearly 4 years later, she just arrived today with her daughter for a long weekend visit.
