When I'm down and a little out of it, I sometimes think of really funny shit that's happened to me or to people I know. For whatever reason, getting a laugh is a Happy Maker for me. I'm going to share one of the stories that I think about from time to time. I just thought of it today, in fact, and it's just as funny now as when I first heard it.
When The Nephew was an infant, The Little Sister was bouncing him to sleep on the yoga ball. He was in a mei tai wrap and he had just fallen asleep in there. You should know that TLS was VERY, VERY protective of his sleep at that time (he was the first child, you know.)
Anyway.
You have to picture it in your head. As she's bouncing the sleeping baby, her cat--for no discernible reason whatsoever--charges at the ball. She jumps up onto it and turns and pushes off, like a fucking Feline Olympic Swimmer, puncturing the ball with her back claws. The ball POPS!! (omfg) and DEFLATES!! INSTANTLY!! sending my sister straight to floor, almost breaking her ass bones in the process. (I find this hilarious. But I am the kind of asshole who laughs whenever ANYONE falls down, so--there's that.)
If that isn't enough to make you wish that someone videoed that shit, get this: Although she is in excruciating broken-ass-bone pain, she HOBBLES WITH THE QUICKNESS to her bedroom, so that she can put down the baby--so he STAYS ASLEEP.
Yes. Yes. Let that sink in for a second.
The yoga ball exploded and she crashed to the floor and broke her ass bones and instead of cursing or crying or screaming from fright, she instantly concerned herself with SAVING THE NAP.
See? I'm happier already.

I cried b/c I was laughing so hard. thanks!

That is one happy making story! Thanks, I needed that.

You just don't eff with the nap. Would have loved to see the entire event. The cat must've been a scream! Good happy-maker.

That is just way to awesome. And demonstrates PERFECTLY the importance of NAP TIME.

That is great. I remember hearing this story which is even funnier when you hear you actually saying it in your so funny way. Anyway that's how I heard it- thanks for the laugh :)

That's hysterical! Also, totally understandable. After all, saving the nap is equivalent to saving the sanity.

I read this two days ago, and I'm STILL laughing (sorry, TLS).

Oh, the mental image induced maniacal laughter. BWA HA HAAAAA!
P.S. Tell your sister I'm sorry for laughing at her broken ass bones. ;)

Oh, man! That was a great story, and a great, much-needed laugh!
As my husband says (a quote he got from Kelso on That 70's Show), "It's funny when friends get hurt." ;-)
I hope things are going okay with your family.

Broken ass bones and all, I get the need to protect the sleep!

That made me laugh out loud.

Awesome story! Every mommy goes through a moment or two like that- what we won't do to get our babies off to dreamland! I hope your sister was ok and didn't have too many broken ass bones.

There is nothing more important than SAVING THE NAP. And I'm so glad those days are over for me!

I needed that laugh. And I'm with your sister, I so would have tried to save the nap too!

That is hilarious!
Hope you're holding up well...

I'm laughing OUT LOUD. As I rapidly approach number two I can only imagine/hope that my first child neuroses will fall by the wayside.

The thing that makes this story funny is that we've all been there, right? All crazy-first-timer who can't control much about this strange new life but feels like if she can just control THE BABY or the baby's SLEEP, all will be right in the world again.
Thank god most of us get over that phase in a hurry. =)
