* I have a first cousin named Maria (more than one, actually,) who lived two doors down from us when we were little. We are close to the same age and I always, always called her Ria, sometimes shortened to Ri. As is the way with your childhood pals, I SEE her as Ria and that's just the way it always was. It wasn't until we were both adults that I found out she HATED that moniker.
* Ria had an aunt or an uncle (on the other side, obv) who kept skunks for pets (they had their, uh, sacs removed, so they were no-smell-em skunks.) When their favorite one died, they had it--err--stuffed.
* Taxidermy freaks me out, as a rule.
* The Tool I dated for a long time was an avid hunter (he wasn't that great at it, though, so I didn't have to deal with taxidermy on the reg.)
* The place where I grew up has the day off of school on the first day of Buck Season. Srsly.
* The Tool had a friend whose father was a Big Game Hunter. We went to his house one time and I stood in his father's Trophy Room. In that room, was a Taxidermy Zoo, and I'm not kidding. There were LIONS, and WATER BUFFALO, and BEARS and COUGARS and antlers EVERYWHERE and OMFG!
* TLNG still has only FOUR TEETH. Which means that she has about SEVENTEEN TEETH coming in at the same time, which is RIGHT NOW. Oi.
* I don't have a philosophical objection to hunting, it just skeeves me the fuck out.
* My kid has been watching Caliou every morning, while I lay on my nauseated side and contemplate the fucked-upness that is going to be the next EIGHT MONTHS. I try not to feel guilty about it because I don't have the mental energy for GUILT.
* A friend of mine took a class with a taxidermist. He had the hots for her and told her that she would look great, eh, taxidermied. She switched seats after that.
* As a result of my policy against sick-posts, I think I'm going to have very LITTLE to write about.
* I was very touched by the de-lurkation situation yesterday. I keep to my policy of never trying to de-lurk lurkers but it was very, very nice to hear from you all. xo
* My kid is watching Caliou right. this. very. minute.
Have a great and nausea-free weekend!

I hope you're feeling better soon, for my own selfish reasons. It's not the same around here without you! To that end, I wrote you a haiku:
New Girl sickie sick
Can't blog with head in toilet
I miss blog post joy

I managed to remove Egg from my titties long enough to say congrats. This is me saying congrats, that is. Or something. Fuck. I have no BRAINS. At least I am safe from zombies.

You shouldn't feel bad about letting TLNG watch tv...sometimes it's the sharpest tool in the parenting tool box. You should, however, feel bad about letting TLNG watch Caillou because, hear me now and believe me yesterday,
CAILLOU IS A PUSSY
Seriously, that whiny bald Canadian motherfucker is not OK. Put those multicolored blobs that look like fat, short, uncircumcised penises on, or even Dora, who cannot moderate the volume of her voice and shouts everything at her damn ebola-carrying monkey.
Just not Caillou.
Please. For the children.

Okay so it didn't eat my comment and now I look like an asshat.
Love to you anyway.

Dammit, your blog ate my comment. Bad blog. Bad, bad, bad.
Anyway.
Let her watch all the TV you can stand. She will survive and you'll be able to rest and puke in peace.
xo

If you were w/in driving distance I'd come take care of that teething girl for you.
And I can not stress this enough - let her watch all the TV she wants. You need the rest and the chance to puke in peace. Seriously.

I'm not a fan of taxidermy OR nausea. Thrilled for you, though!

A belated CONGRATULATIONS on your news, and I'm so glad it's good news! Hooray!
(And I hope you feel better soon. Though soon is relative, I suppose.)

Nausea blows goats. I had it through the whole 9 months of my pregnancy, and the first four months were so severe I was hospitalized twice with dehydration. Gah. Strangely, the one thing I could stomach was mcdonald's breakfasts with a tall coke. Not exactly super healthy-licous, but I'm convinced they kept me alive.
On another note, I'm now convinced you grew up in northern Wisconsin. Who else closes school on the first day of buck season?
Um, just took a quick gander at your comments. Apparently Pennsylvania does too, and now that I think about it, I've heard that some places in Idaho, Montana and Colorado do it too. Weird. When I was a kid they used to end school at noon every Tuesday, put us on a bus, and make us go skiing. To this day I hate skiing.

ahhh I don't show up for a few days and get greeted with awesome news!! Figures.
Congrats on bebe #2. TLNG will make a great big sister ;)

Man, my baby is 17 months and still only has TWO teeth. So on that front, I feel your pain.

BIG congrats on your PG, New Girl. I haven't been here in awhile. My apologies, as I've been on a new computer and have had to rebuild my 'Favorites.' I'll be back to checking in here, even if you write about being sick!

Mildly delurking here to wish you well and let you know how much my husband hates Caillou. I love the little freak though. I'd rather have my almost 3yo son watching him than, say, most of the crap on Nickelode*n. My cat doesn't like being called Gilbert though. And here in NV, we used to have Halloween as a school holiday. Beats buck hunting.

hope you feel better soon. I hate watching Calliou. I give you props for letting her watch it. It doesn't play on my tv anymore.

hey wait, I don't remember getting the first day of buck season off. but amanda does. weird.
she's from f-view tho, maybe it was different.
i could really use a day off.
we use calliou as a lesson in how NOT to act in our house. turn a bad thing good kinda situation.
feel better. ugh.

Ug the nausea. Mine got weirdly worse at 10 weeks just as I was praying it would go away. I think its dying down but the tiredness? Kicking my ass.

Mary: I WAS like you. My whole first pregnancy was a TRAIN WRECK for the ENTIRE TIME. I am hoping against hope that I don't have a REPEAT.
Tess: The Taxidermy doesn't affect me in the gut, it just gives me Heebs of the MIND. lmao.

Two things....
1. Don't feel bad about letting the creepy bald kid whose dad has gang land eyebrows get you thru this time. I am ever so thankful for The Puzzle Place helping me with Giggles when I thought I was going to die of nauseation while preggers with The Chicken.
2. I used to clean this lady's house to help make ends meet about 5 years ago-he husband was really big into hunting. They had a whole room devoted to his "Dead Animal Collection" (okay they didn't call it that, I did) I was very insistent that I would not go into the dead animal room unless some sort of emergency warranted it, which was never. Altho the husband was kind of upset that I didn't de cob web the dead animals, altho he wasn't offering to pay me more for the emotional trauma it would have caused me to be in there for any amount of time.

I LURVE this taxidermy theme but I can't believe you were able to stomach it while barfy. I'm SO GLAD you were, though.
The Tool is the world's most perfect ex nickname. The end.
Posted by: Tess | February 13, 2009 at 10:21 AM
I wish. Mine will surely be nausea-full. A condition that will on be exacerbated, I'm sure, by a visit from my mother-in-law.
Feel better, if that's possible!
Posted by: Amy Jo | February 13, 2009 at 10:19 AM
Oh the nausea. I'm so glad that's over for me and I hope it is short lived for you. Whatever you can do to get through this time, ALL WILL BE FORGIVEN.
At 28 weeks I've just entered the very large belly phase where my lap is quickly disappearing. My daughter knows about the baby in Mommy's belly but she still is shocked by the loss of lap.

I'm taking this post as a not so subtle hint that being stuffed and mounted would be preferable to another pregnancy like the last.
All Caillou all the time is fine. Why do you think God created On Demand?
Posted by: Manic Mommy | February 13, 2009 at 09:22 AM
You're so obviously from PA. I think the whole state has the first day of buck off of school. They tried to make us go a year or 2 when I was in middle school, and hardly anyone showed up so they went back to letting us all stay home.
Posted by: Amanda | February 13, 2009 at 09:20 AM
TNG maybe with all that nausea you should NOT be thinking of taxidermy so much - SHUDDERS. I was there a few short weeks ago and now that is gone but it has been replaced by sciatic nerve pain.. O JOY JOY JOY!!!
I just keep telling - it is only temporary. At this point (6 months) it has become an effin chant.
HUGS

I am hopeful for you that the nausea only lasts through the first trimester. The fact that you can make it to the couch is a good sign though! I'm at almost 29 weeks... and still take Zofran every day. I'm also still down 10-12 lbs from my starting pregnancy weight. Don't be like me!
