Did you ever have a day in which you just felt, I don't know. Not right?
Like a sense of The General Malaise?
Like you're SO isolated and cut off from the outside world but the LAST thing you want to do is, like, TALK to someone or GO somewhere?
Like you're the WORST MOTHER IN THE WORLD, you're sure of it and when your crazy-girl daughter screams her head off for reasons unknown, you think, 'See? If I was a half-way-decent Mom, you'd be SMILING AT ME."
Like when you do something kind of dumb, like lose track of time and feed your daughter her sweet potatoes a half-hour EARLY, you've RUINED the whole day and possibly her appetite FOREVER (and shouldn't she be eating more by now anyway?)
Like you're the WORST MOTHER IN THE WORLD, you're sure of it and when your cutie-pie daughter gives you a huge smile, you think, 'Man, do I have HER fooled!'
Like everyone you know is smarter, cuter, more driven, better off, more successful and more together than you, even though you have long since made it a habit NEVER to compare like that?
Like even though you work, you don't really feel like you contribute to the household in a meaningful way anymore?
Like your house is never CLEAN enough and why aren't you lucky enough to have ANY of your NEUROSES in the area of clean-freakishness?
Like you're wasting valuable, precious moments of your kid's childhood BLOGGING this post, which is NOT so much a post as it is WHINING about how it feels like the whole world is sagging but really, truly, nothing is wrong.

Sounds pretty common. Around here it calls for chocolate and wine or a night out on the town!
Chocolate and wine appear here at least once a week, usually more!

Oh yes, it must have been something in the air yesterday. I threw myself a pity-party last night. Where everyone could see. Today I feel like a jackass, which is only adding to my self-pity.
Blah.
I hope you are feeling better!

I hear ya, girl. Life can sometimes be a biatch. Or maybe it's just our little heads fucking with us, making life SEEM like a biatch.
Hope you're doing better today. I had a rough one yesterday too. :(

I've been there. And my house is never clean. You're not alone, FWIW :)

why did you write a post about me???!!
Posted by: Anna | January 04, 2008 at 02:44 AM
Yes. Yes, like once a week.

I have no business commenting since I told my son to STFU just the other night.
Or was that my husband?
See, I'm terrible. I can't remember.

Yep. It's a vicious circle that can only be stopped by Esther, that little hussy.

I would do that hugs thing for you, but I hate that.
I feel ya mama, in many ways. Let's compare dust bunnies some time. Hang in there.

Yes.
Love, Swistle

Yes, Yes, yes, Yes, Yes & Yes ... and yes to everything else, too!
And frustrating just how many "days" it happens!
Posted by: Beachmom | January 03, 2008 at 08:27 PM
A DAY? It's a week out of every month at this house. At least.
Posted by: Lindsey | January 03, 2008 at 07:17 PM
Um....yes. Yes to all of it. I actually call it the General Malaise too. I hate it. It is most definitely not just you.

Just glad to hear I'm not alone.
Posted by: Shannon | January 03, 2008 at 05:03 PM
yes.
Posted by: slouching mom | January 03, 2008 at 03:11 PM
Are you saying this isn't a normal feeling? Huh?! I feel this way EVERYDAY.
Posted by: Jennifer | January 03, 2008 at 03:04 PM
Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll keep a seat warm for you in hell, okay? Next to me?

I've totally had those days except without the mom stuff...which means that my days have been nothing at all like yours have been and I cannot at all relate to how overwhelming it must be at times.
But I try.
Or something.
I will shut up now.

I can definitely say I have days like that. On those days I take a day off of even trying to be a good Mommy/housewife/cook/maid/etc. We eat crappy foods and I clean nothing and I do nothing and the day is over and, most times, I'm better the next day.

Been there, so completely been there. Are you getting your period back? Ugh, those are the days I feel it the worst, sadly. Hugs - (and for what it's worth, you are the exact opposite of everything you state you feel; you pretty much rock, utterly).

Every damned day, girlfriend. Every friggin' day. I feel you.
Posted by: Heather | January 03, 2008 at 01:50 PM
Yup. You forgot getting fat and not exercising enough, though.
Posted by: Manic Mommy | January 03, 2008 at 01:46 PM
I can relate to most of that...but not at all the one about blogging. (She types with newborn daughter passed out on shoulder and not being held onto so mama can use both hands to...blog).
Ok maybe I get it a little.
It's too freakin cold to go outside anyways.

You are in my head. Get out, there's not enough room for two of us.
